New Chief Drinking Water Inspector appointed
Professor Jeni Colbourne MBE has been appointed Chief Inspector of the Drinking Water Inspectorate with effect from 9 April 2003, following an Open Competition, Water Minister Elliot Morley and Welsh Environment Minister, Sue Essex announced today.
Professor Colbourne brings to the Drinking Water Inspectorate 28 years experience of working in the water industry. She has been a senior manager at Thames Water plc since 1989 where she was responsible for drinking water quality and operational science. More recently she has been managing the company's international research programme with responsibility for global academic and public health relationships.
Currently Scientific Advisor to the Water Regulations Advisory Scheme and Chair of the International Water Association's UK Committee, she is also Visiting Professor to the Centre for Environmental Health Engineering at the University of Surrey.
She succeeds Michael Rouse who has been Chief Inspector since 1993 and who will be leaving the post on 4 April 2003. One of Michael's future activities will be President of the International Water Association, effective 1 April 2003.
