Does bottled water mix with ice cream?
Bottled water and ice cream (along with myriad of other food products and processing equipment) turned up at the International Bottled Water Association's 45th Annual Convention and Trade Show. It was the first time that IBWA joined forces with other food associations at the Worldwide Food Expo '03 in Chicago.
The sheer size of the combined show was daunting to some of the members we spoke to. But the bottled water section was sequestered at South Hall of the mammoth McCormick Place. At the Bottled Water Bar, which shared space with the Dairy Industry sampling bar, industry leaders had a opportunity to share ideas and news in a casual surrounding. Bob Hidell, Jack Donohue, Jack West, Stephen Kay, Gwen Haynes, Bruce Hadloc, Joe Doss, Max Busetti and Doug Oberhamer were just some of the familiar faces we saw.
Was there synergy between the different products? According to IBWA President, Joe Doss, "By Wednesday we had 3600 attendees which was up over the previous year", and there was still three days to go. There was 32,000 square feet of exhibitors within the bottled water section and another 10,000 square feet of exhibitors that were bottled water exhibitors but located outside of the area as they were also suppliers to the other food industries.
