Best tasting water bottled in U.S. is Lauré

The rest of the world has recognized what we’ve known in this area all along — Lauré Pristine Spring Water is the best tasting, non-carbonated, domestically bottled water on the market.

Lauré captured the honor during the 12th Annual Travel Berkeley Springs’ Festival of The Waters, which is a water tasting featuring waters from Canada, New Zealand, Scotland, Sweden Bosnia and dozens of states in the United States.

Water master Arthur von Wiesenberger directed a panel of judges to look, sniff and taste more than two days worth of bottled waters from municipalities to carbonated waters. In a fashion similar to a wine tasting, the waters were judged on appearance (waters should be clear, not cloudy), lack of aroma, clean taste, mouthfeel (it should feel light) and aftertaste (it should leave you thirsty for more).

“We are extremely honored to have received this distinction,” said Bill Lizzio, vice president of Natural Springs Water Group LLC, which bottles Lauré. “Our water competed against waters from as far away as Sweden and as close as Arkansas, but the clarity and taste made Lauré stand out as the winner it is.”

So, what makes Lauré one of the best waters? There are several reasons. First, we start with the best possible source of water. Lauré originates from a 3,600-acre watershed deep within the Cherokee National Forest. Natural Springs Water Group uses a spring collection box, not a borehole well. Borehole wells can damage the underground aquifer by drawing in poorly filtered surface water and by depleting the aquifer faster than its natural recharge. Natural Springs Water Group uses a spring collection box at the natural orifice of the spring. While harvesting spring water this way is more expensive, it assures that future generations will be enjoying the same water that we enjoy today. Unfortunately, as it now stands, the FDA’s definition of spring water can include water from naturally free-flowing springs and water pumped from borehole wells.

The only way to tell if a bottled water on the shelf is truly from a free-flowing spring is to look for the National Spring Water Association’s gold seal.

“The NSWA strives to protect springs and encourage sustainable resource management through a certification process of its members,” Lizzo said. “Consumers can protect the environment and reward companies that do the right thing by picking NSWA-certified spring waters.”

Lauré Pristine Spring Water is also available in a fluorinated version. Lauré with fluoride contains 1 ppm of fluoride, which is well within the optimal amount recommended by the American Dental Association. Studies have shown that drinking water with fluoride reduces cavities by 60 percent. The majority of bottled waters on the market today do not contain fluoride.
